All Dorset refs received an email yesterday emphasising that pre season games must be reffed in the same way as competetive fixtures.
It was particular emphasised that cautions and sending off offences must be punished and reported in the same way as they would be in a competetive fixture and that roll-on roll-off substitutions were strictly illegal.
Any ref found to be contravening these rules will be subject to disciplinary action.
Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just passing on the info.

What a load of garbage about the roll on/subs!!!!! How is any manager going to be able to try out different formations and players in different positions? It's preseason so why had this rule come in now? Anybody know? Also teams still play a preseason friendly to "WIN" as they Want atleast a few bragging rights over a so called bigger team, so does a manager not change the starting 11 because of all this? And finally does this stupid rule apply to all non league friendlies?

It applies to every friendly sanctioned by the FA. It has come from on high so is not the fault of the guys in Hamworthy, they are just enforcing the rule. Apparently it has to due with the risk of injury to players - muscle strains etc if players get warm then cold then warm again.

That's bull. It's down to the clubs themselves to make sure players are warmed up and prepared properly for any game let alone preseason friendlies. So sorry ref that dosent quite seem a justified reason fir this so called rule. More the point that refs get confused with all the players constantly changing and have had games where there's been 12 players on the pitch!!!! Bad refs!!!!

This isn't 'new'. All matches during this pre-season have been subjected to the same rule. Managers have known about this for a while as the information was sent out from the FA very early on. Roll-on/off subs is school-boy football. You don't get it at an higher level so why should it be acceptable here? Pikey's got into trouble for moaning about it at Gosport yet the managers have all been warned. "Up to the clubs to make sure their players are warmed-up properley" ? If you had an ounce of common sense you would know that it is just not possible to 'cool down' and then 'warm up' again in the space of 45 minutes. This is a sensible rule and only affects those managers who either don't have enough players or haven't planned enough friendlies and want to try a number of experiments during the course of one match. How can you expect a player to show what he's capable of if you only give him 20 minutes or only try a system for 25 minutes? Try XI players and one system in one half and then make multiple substitutions at half-time and change the system for the second half. This gives a manager time to look at something properly. The only point at which I would have some sympathy is if a player picked up and injury and there were no subs left, you may as well play 11 against 11 in a friendly. Any other complaints about this is just amateurs whigning - on here, surely not?!?!?!?!

Not, it is not bull and it is not down to bad refs. As I said, I'm just passing on the info, don't shoot the messenger. I have turned up to ref games and have had to argue the toss with managers over whether or not roll-on/roll-offs are legal. The fact is they aren't and all clubs have been informed of that fact. It seems that info is not being passed on to managers or managers have received the info but seem to think that refs should ignore it.

I think the ref is a young referee called Ben Cobb who sent Tommy Killick to the stand at the Poole v Dorchester game last week when Tommy tried to bring Dan Cann back on, as he said he is only doing his job and all the clubs were advised of the subs ruling before pre-season. So its the same old story with Poole Town thinking they can do as they please. You would think that they have realised by now they have to abide by the same rules as everybody else. Don't get on the refs back for having to enforce this stupid rule, he is only doing his job.
