DPL: Winders the Borough hero
5:46pm Monday 22nd March 2010

POOLE Borough manager Paul Harding paid tribute to Anthony Winders after he got off his sick bed to hand the Hornets a last-gasp 2-1 triumph over Swanage Town and Herston.
With the Turlin Moor outfit's squad heavily depleted on Saturday, it was no surprise when they went a goal down courtesy of Swans hitman Jamie Holland after 16 minutes.
But Ross Mills stunned the visitors when he levelled the match with a controversially-awarded penalty three minutes from the end.
This was before Winders netted the winner in stoppage time and Harding hailed Borough's hero for refusing to let the side down.
"Winders had been up all night being sick," he said. "He called me early in the morning to say he was unavailable because he was so ill.
"But I managed to talk him into coming down and giving us 45 minutes or whatever he could.
"He lasted the whole game for me and popped up with the winning goal at the end.
"That showed massive commitment to this club.
"He was outstanding for us. He won everything in the air all day and worked his socks off - like the rest of the lads really.
"It was a hard-working performance against the top side in the league at the moment. The win came very late, but it was probably my proudest moment as manager of Poole Borough."
Elsewhere, Hamworthy Recreation maintained their phenomenal unbeaten record in the Dorset Premier League after winning 1-0 at reigning champions Portland United.
Jamie Moores netted after 40 minutes to take Rec within 11 games of finishing the campaign without defeat.
This preserved their eight-point lead at the top of the table, despite nearest rivals Chickerell United triumphing 4-1 at Sturminster Marshall. Matt Jones struck the home side's consolation.
Parley Sports picked up their second straight DPL victory after lowering Cobham Sports' colours 2-0 at Merley. Jesse Hodgson and Dan Hiscock struck in the second period.
Despite Justin Hall opening the scoring for Blandford United, they went down 3-1 at home to Westland Sports.
Hamworthy United lost 3-1 at Wincanton Town and, in the day's other game, basement club Sturminster Newton were beaten 3-1 at home by Sherborne Town.
